Your grandma's 1974 Ford Maverick with 30k original miles was discovered just a few miles from the shop. It was decided to use the solid platform to build a RallyCross car. We threw at it many of the tricks we have learned over the years to see if we could build a car capable of competing with more modern machinery while keeping the budget in check.
Andy raced MAV1 in the 2015 Oregon Region SCCA RallyCross series competing in the Modified Rear Wheel Drive (Mod Rear) class. It competed in a modified class due to the extensive suspension modifications and the addition of a posi-traction differential. At the time it still utilized the stock Ford 250 cid six cylinder engine with a one barrel carburetor, three speed automatic transmission and drum brakes. The setup clearly worked as MAV1 was class champion in its first season out!
After a few years of temporary retirement we decided to pull MAV1 back into the limelight and prepare it for the (unofficial) C2C/2904 cross country Cannonball (New York to San Francisco). At this point the car received a cosmetic face-lift and a warmed-up Ford 302 V8. The car, driven by Tyler and his friend Andrew, successfully completed the event covering over 7,000 miles in two weeks. For a first experience in an event of this type, the team did great and the car had zero issues, plus they had one hell of a drive!
